Hypnotherapy (Hypnosis Treatment)

Hypnosis is a technique that by creating a “state of consciousness” in a person, tries to reach the subconscious thoughts. Hypnotherapy is the name that is given to the treatment applied to the person during hypnosis.

Although it may seem by many people as mysterious and creepy, hypnotherapy is actually not a mystical treatment method or a method that is to be feared. It is never magic, a spell or a state of sleep. It is a method for treatment and at the same time, it is a method used additionally in many therapy methods as an accelerating-facilitating element.

According to one definition, it is a “state of introspection, consciousness and directing the subconscious according to the will”. It is a state of absorption of the self, focus and concentration. It is aim is to save the subconscious from the breaks of the consciousness that uses to direct us.

With a conscious hypnosis, while the consciousness is fully active, by disclosing a set of problems in the subconscious of the people, a state of consciousness can be established and with the certain inculcations given to the person, positive effects that can be executed in life are created.

Hypnotherapy defines the treatments conducted with hypnosis. In the world, hypnotherapy is mostly used by at first place by psychologists, second by dentists and third by gynecologist (with a frequency of 25%).

In many women diseases as psychological factors play a role, with hypnotherapy, without the necessity of medicine or operations, many problems are solved easily.

Hypnosis treatment in vaginismus treatments

In our clinic, we use the hypnosis treatments (hypnotherapy) most frequently for sexual therapies, vaginismus and painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) treatments.

In many women who encounter the vaginismus problem, many fears, which have been embedded in the subconscious since childhood, grow in time and surface at different periods. These fears may not be just restricted to “sexual fears” such as first night, sexual intercourse or hymen but may also include many other fears (needle, blood, insect, darkness, loneliness, disease, death etc…) with it.

Hypnotherapies are extremely important in getting read of the fears in the subconscious and comforting the person. There are many scientific material published in this matter.

Hypnosis in Woman’s Health

In woman’s life, in the long period since childhood up to the menopause, in many instances psychological factors are active.
In women or young girls, the complaints of the premenstrual tension syndrome that is known as dysmenorrheal (painful periods) or “premenstrual syndrome” can be dispelled completely or lessened by hypnotic concentration and inculcations.

Again, women may expect some psychological problems during pregnancy. These psychological troubles can differ in level in each pregnant person. Among these, most frequent are nausea and vomiting due to pregnancy (hyperemesis gravidarum),psychological troubles during pregnancy (Anxieties),and fears of birth giving, premature birth or miscarriage and giving birth to a handicapped or defective baby.

In recent years, the number of pregnant women who wish to give painless and normal birth (vaginal) through hypnosis increase. Through hypnotic inculcations, without affecting the vaginal contractions, it is possible to for pregnant women to give “painless” births.

On the other hand, in puerperium, for problems such as depression (postpartum blues) and decrease in milk due to anxiety, hypnotherapies can be helpful.

Some women may encounter troubles due to getting pregnant despite their wish to not to have a baby in their marriage. These troubles may break their motivation and to let them give in and cause them to sulk towards life. With hypnosis therapies, people’s troubles may be lessened, their positive motivation enhanced and life energies increased.

In the later years, during the transition period to the menopause, symptoms such as fever, hot flashes, sweat, palpitation and sleeping disorders that are named as “premenopausal distresses” can be seen in women. These symptoms may last from a few months to 10 years. With hypnosis therapies, it is possible to overcome or at least ease the distresses of the menopause.

Hypnosis with Questions

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Yes. Only people who cannot be communicated with cannot be hypnotized. Among this group are mentally retarded, demented or antisocial (violent) people and children in very early ages (under 5-6).

Who are more prone to enter into hypnosis?

Smart and creative people, operation nurses, people who pursue disciplined life styles such as policemen and soldiers, can be hypnotized fast and easily.

How is the concentration level in hypnosis?

Some of us, while driving, can be carried away by the road (road hypnosis). Or some of us get to be carried away to the pleasing moments the beautiful music takes us to and we live them again in our minds, and perhaps meanwhile do not hear the door bell ringing. Thus the different concentration levels of the people through given inculcations, determine the depth of the hypnosis.

How are the depths of hypnosis?

Hypnosis, according to its depth, is categorized into three groups as light-medium and deep. Actually, in the sense of its medical capability to cure, the deep hypnosis has no benefits in contrast to light or medium hypnosis. Usually the hypnotic sessions conducted after the first session are more easily executed and a better sense of listening is achieved. Despite the fact that the depth of hypnosis depends on the person, generally, the people, who can adapt well, are able to relax completely at the second and third sessions.

What are the requisites for easy and relaxed hypnosis?

A person’s trust in her doctor or therapist, to enter into collaboration with him or her, and to open her mind to the given inculcations without fear and anxiety, are the factors that make hypnosis easier.

During Hypnosis, does the consciousness black out?

No. During conscious hypnosis the mind is entirely luculent, meaning that the person is aware of everything that happens. Moreover, the person can reject inculcations that are not suitable for her and she is closed to any action against her will. In this way, it is not possible for the person to be harmed from outside.

What is felt under hypnosis?

In hypnosis, the state of comfort, relaxation and happiness prevails.

Is there a possibility that the person will not be able to get out of hypnosis?

No. Even in the case that the person who hypnotizes suddenly leaves the room, leaving the person alone, the person may autonomously get out of hypnosis in 10 to 30 minutes. The reason to get out of hypnosis sometimes late is because of the state of extreme contentment and happiness that the person experiences in hypnosis.

Can the things spoken and lived during hypnosis be remembered afterwards?

Yes. After leaving hypnosis, what the thoughts were in the subconscious during hypnosis can be remembered. Thus the curability value of hypnosis is related with the skill of remembering the subconscious completely.

Is everyone hypnotized in the same way?

No. The techniques and methods of being hypnotized are different for everyone. This may depend upon the problem of the person and character traits. Thus, in the technique of hypnosis, personalization is important.

Do the medical institutions confirm hypnosis applications?

Yes. The English Medical Institution published an article on medical hypnosis in 1775. In 1958, American Medical Society spokesmen also found the usage of medical hypnosis suitable.

Unfortunately, in Turkey, there is still not a legal regulation. However, hypnosis trainings can be given, foremost by Yeditepe University Dentistry Faculty under various programs, only to psychologist, doctors and dentist through courses.

Can undesired addictions be quitted through hypnosis?

Yes. Besides smoking, alcohol or drugs, hypnotic inculcations are very beneficial in the treatments of nail biting, bedwetting and in diets through reducing the desire to eat in extremes.

Who are entitled to hypnotize?

Unfortunately many doctors are not even knowledgeable in the issue of hypnosis. Only certified doctors, dentists and psychologists trained in this matter have the right to hypnotize. Although one’s ability to hypnotize does not require a lot of skills, the beneficence of the conducted hypnosis depends on a person’s knowledge and experience.

How can hypnosis be interpreted religiously?

All Protestant sects confirm the usage of hypnosis medically. Similarly, Jewish belief is not objective.
